The European Union on Thursday welcomed the adoption of a new Indonesian aviation law which introduces stricter safety regulations on Indonesian airliners. Indonesia has called on the European Union to lift its ban on the country's carriers from the 27-nation bloc's airspace after Jakarta passed a new aviation law, media reports said Thursday The Association of Southeast Asian Nations moved to forge an EU-style community Monday, signing a charter that makes the bloc a legal entity for the first time and could pave the way for creating a single market within seven years. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the ASEAN Charter was a document that would enable South East Asia to face various global challenges in the future with greater unity.  Calendar of Events 2008
